ABOUT ME
"There are no passengers on spaceship Earth. We are all crew." Marshall McLuhan I am Assistant Professor of Public Policy at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra-Barcelona and Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación research fellow. Previous to this position, I was Research Fellow at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI). I define myself as a public policy scholar with the curiosity of a student. I study political and social relations as the reflection of our survival instict Darwin once described. I am above all interested in understanding how and why institutions are (non) responsive to citizens' aspirations and needs. My research primarily focuses on governance processes from a multilevel and regulatory perspectives in multiple policy sectors but with a special focus on migration and integration. More substantively, I look into the local and multilevel governance of migration and integration in Europe and at the regulatory governance of food safety, health, and finance as well as migration at the EU/member state levels and in South America. My work has been published in Public Administration, Journal of European Integration, American Behavioural Scientist, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, International Migration Review, The Lancet, among others. I am a member and coordinator of the Research Group on Institutions and Political Actors at the UPF and I collaborate with the Cluster on Diversity and Politics at IBEI and the research group on the Quality of Democracy (QDem) at the University of Barcelona. I am also a member of several associations such as the International Political Science Association, the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR); the International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion European Network (IMISCOE) and the International Public Policy Association (IPPA). I have contributed to Catalan, Spanish and European projects as principal investigator and researcher. One of the activities that I enjoy the most is teaching. I consider teaching a privilege and a central part of my mission as social scientist. I have taught undergrad and master courses on public policy, international relations, immigration and qualitative methods. In my academic journey, I have also done academic stays at the Erasmus Migration and Diversity Institute in the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the CUNY Graduate Center in New York and McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. I have been invited to media outlets such as Diari Ara, France-Presse, DW and RTVE-radio as an expert on immigrant integration and Latin America. |
